Principal - Belvedere British School / Developing Real Learners - NPO
Robert is a highly experienced inter-cultural/international educator. Currently transforming as Principal at Belvedere British School, Abu Dhabi, he is also the founding director of the non-profit ‘Developing Real Learners’ and constructing the ‘Academy of Learner Development’ - organisations which aim to help individuals and communities transform education for themselves. Students become learners for life; teachers and parents become guides and catalysts; classrooms become learning communities; leaders become better; all schools can become learning organisations full of opportunities for learner development where young people make and take their education.

What Each of Us Can Actually Do Towards Transforming Education
Session Summary:
We hear so much about 'transforming education', and yet, for many, stuck in content-heavy, admin-weighted systems, it seems that things never change - at least in favour of learners, teachers and parents. And yet there are ways we can all make a difference - a path that we can all carve out for ourselves that will create the best schools for learners, a more engaging second education for teachers, and enable young people to really maximise their chances of happy and successful lives. This empowering session moves beyond theoretical discussions of educational transformation to focus on practical, actionable steps that individual educators, leaders, and stakeholders can take within existing systems. Participants will discover how small, intentional changes in daily practice can create ripple effects that benefit students, colleagues, and the broader school community. Join this session to
Identify personal transformation opportunities within your current role and context where individual actions can create meaningful change for learners and colleagues
Develop practical change strategies for implementing learner-development-centred practices, increasing learner and teacher autonomy, and fostering more engaging learning environments within existing constraints
Build collaborative networks with like-minded educators and stakeholders to amplify individual efforts and create sustainable transformation movements
Sustain long-term impact through approaches that maintain momentum for change while avoiding burnout and working effectively within institutional structures
