Amal Jamil Fatani
Professor, Pharmacology & Toxicology - College of Pharmacy, King Saud University
Professor Amal Fatani is a distinguished Saudi academic, leader, and advocate with more than three decades of experience spanning higher education, scientific research, human rights, women and youth empowerment, and cross cultural collaboration. She currently serves as Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology and Advisory Board Member at the College of Pharmacy, King Saud University (KSU), where her academic and administrative leadership has shaped generations of students and contributed to the advancement of scientific research in the Kingdom.
In 2020, Professor Fatani was appointed by the Ministry of Education as Cultural Attaché at the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the United Kingdom, becoming responsible for more than 14,000 Saudi students across nearly 80 UK universities, with an additional 600 students in Ireland in her final year. Over her four year tenure, she revitalized 29 Saudi student clubs, institutionalized annual elections, and fostered a culture of volunteerism and national representation. She oversaw the organization of 11 student research symposia and 30 cultural discussions under the “London Cultural Saloon,” while standardizing club performance and establishing Gold and Silver recognition plaques. Her leadership emphasized relationship building, resulting in more than 300 engagements with stakeholders across both countries. She also played a key role in facilitating high level delegations between the UK and Saudi Arabia, strengthening educational and technological partnerships aligned with long term strategic collaboration.
Professor Fatani’s national and international influence extends beyond academia. She served as Sherpa for the Science 20 (S20) during Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency in 2020 and supported the Women 20 (W20) in multiple initiatives. She was appointed by royal decree as a Board Member of the Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC), where she contributed to committees focused on family, women, children, and civic rights. Representing the Kingdom, she participated in delegations to the United Nations in Geneva and New York, the Arab League in Cairo, and official visits to Canada, while regularly engaging with international diplomats and organizations.
Her governance experience includes board roles at Mawhiba, the Saudi Research Science Institute (SRSI) at KAUST, Al Yamamah University, Al Faisal University, University of Prince Mugrin, and King Faisal University. Earlier, at the Ministry of Higher Education, she served as Consultant and General Supervisor of Female Affairs, establishing the Biannual Female Leaders Forum and contributing to national and international committees.
At KSU, she held pioneering leadership roles, including Chair of the Pharmacology & Toxicology Department, the first Vice Dean of the Female College of Pharmacy, and the first Dean overseeing nine female scientific and medical colleges. Her corporate experience includes serving as Vice President at TATA Consulting Services’ All Women Business Process & Digital Services Centre, where she helped expand the workforce from 400 to nearly 1,000 employees and contributed to award winning sustainability and empowerment initiatives.
Professor Fatani holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde and has produced over 50 scientific publications. Her research collaborations span KSU, the National Guard’s Antivenom Centre, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Strathclyde University, and Yale School of Medicine. Throughout her career, she has championed Saudi Vision 2030 goals, particularly in education, employment, and empowerment of women and youth.
