How School-Led Sport Conferences Can Support Curriculum, Competition, and National Vision
Session Summary:
This session will explore the development of the Jeddah Inter-School Sports Conference — JISSC — as a school-led initiative designed to address a clear gap in the current school sport landscape: the need for inclusive, structured, curriculum-connected, and developmentally appropriate inter-school sport opportunities. The presentation will outline how JISSC has attempted to create a practical model that connects teacher training, PE curriculum development, in-school participation, inter-school competition, and talent identification. Rather than focusing only on elite sport, the model aims to build a wider culture of movement, participation, leadership, and school collaboration.
The session will also discuss the future vision of expanding JISSC into SISSC — the Saudi Inter-School Sports Conference — as a potential working project that could be presented to the Ministry of Education and relevant national sport bodies. The aim is to demonstrate how schools can work together to support Saudi Arabia’s wider ambitions for health, youth development, sport participation, and Vision 2030. Participants will leave with insight into how a locally developed school sport framework can grow from a grassroots initiative into a scalable national model that supports students, teachers, schools, federations, and the broader sporting ecosystem.
