Unpacking Vocabulary Growth: Self-Regulated Quizlet Use and Vocabulary Learning Strategies Among Saudi EFL Students

Session Summary:

Vocabulary learning is crucial in EFL education for effective communication. Thus, with the advent of mobile devices and online platforms such as Quizlet, research has explored the benefits of mobile learning and gamification for vocabulary learning. However, most of this research on Quizlet has primarily focused on using pre-existing or teacher-created materials. In contrast, there has been relatively limited research on the impact of student-generated vocabulary learning via Quizlet flashcard sets. Accordingly, this study explores the vocabulary learning strategies used after learning new vocabulary via Quizlet. The study used an exploratory mixed-methods design and convenience sampling, including 43 EFL 6th-grade students at an international school in Saudi Arabia.
