INSPIREd Continuing Professional Development: Fostering a Sustainable Talent Development Culture

Session Summary:

This session argues for transforming Continuing Professional Development (CPD) from isolated, one-off training events into sustainable, evidence-driven teacher growth ecosystems. Drawing on recent research and aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, the presentation introduces an INSPIREd CPD framework which positions professional learning as Impactful, Needs-based, Sustained, Peer-collaborative, In-practice, Reflective, and Evaluated (Richardson & Diàz Maggioli, 2018). Central to the session is the INSPIREd Professional Development Journey – a structured yet flexible, cyclical model that translates CPD frameworks into an actionable roadmap for institutions and educators. Participants explore how four interconnected stages of professional growth – awareness, understanding, engagement, and integration – map onto eleven ELT professional practices across disciplinary expertise, professional awareness, core teaching processes, and cross-cutting practices, informed by the British Council CPD Framework for teachers (2025). Through staged self-assessment, strategic planning, aligned CPD and Self-Directed Professional Development (SDPD), INSPIRE-based evaluation, and structured reflection, the model transforms professional learning into a coherent growth journey grounded in classroom impact. Participants will be able to:

• Reflect on the four stages of professional growth and their connection to eleven ELT professional practices to self-evaluate and build coherent development pathways that strengthen both disciplinary expertise and cross-cutting teaching capabilities.

• Implement the INSPIREd CPD framework to design and engage in sustainable professional learning ecosystems that move beyond event-driven training and establish evidence-based, context-responsive teacher development programmes.

• Construct aligned institutional and self-directed professional development strategies that foster collaborative, reflective, and inquiry-oriented learning cultures supporting Saudi Vision 2030’s educational transformation goals.
