TRANSFORMATIVE Continuing Professional Development: Fostering a Sustainable Talent Development Culture

Session Summary:

This session explores how Continuing Professional Development (CPD) can become a sustainable, evidence-informed process of professional growth that develops adaptive expertise and translates into meaningful classroom impact. Drawing on contemporary research and aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, the presentation introduces the TRANSFORMATIVE CPD Framework – a holistic framework of fourteen interconnected principles that define and guide effective professional learning.

Central to the session is the TRANSFORMATIVE Professional Development Journey, a structured, cyclical model that enables participants to identify their stages of professional growth – Awareness, Understanding, Engagement, and Integration – in relation to eleven ELT professional practices from the British Council CPD Framework for Teachers (2025). Through self-assessment, strategic planning, implementation, evidence-based evaluation, and reflection-for-, in-, and on-practice, participants develop practical strategies to strengthen teacher agency, cultivate adaptive expertise, enhance classroom practice, and improve learner outcomes.

Participants will be able to:

  • Apply the TRANSFORMATIVE CPD Framework to analyse, design, and evaluate sustainable, evidence-based professional learning.
  • Reflect on their professional growth in relation to eleven ELT professional practices.
  • Construct aligned professional development strategies that cultivate adaptive expertise and support Saudi Vision 2030.
