Sally Carter

Sally Carter is the High School Drama Teacher at the American School of Doha, whose own path into education was shaped by a drama teacher who became both mentor and support system — sparking a lifelong love of theatre that she has spent her career passing on to others.
She earned her Qualified Teacher Status in the UK, alongside a Bachelor's degree in Theatre and Modern History and a Bachelor of Secondary Education from Sydney, Australia. Her international teaching journey has taken her from Thailand and China to Abu Dhabi, and now to Doha, teaching across IB DP Theatre, DP Literature, and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).
Having gone through the IB Diploma Programme herself as a student, Sally is a firm believer that skills can be taught, but learning happens through experience. Her approach centers on experiential, real-world learning — giving students the opportunity to act, reflect, and grow through the process itself, rather than simply being told what to know. This philosophy shapes her commitment to inclusive curriculum design, creating pathways into theatre for students who don't yet see themselves as "theatre people." In her previous school, this approach took student engagement in theatre from zero to 60% in just twelve months.
