Shady Elkassas, M.Ed., is an award-winning education consultant, researcher, trainer, and Research & Development Manager at OBELAS. His career spans nearly two decades across K–12 education, including roles as a physics teacher, head of science, academic coordinator, director of innovation and academics, vice principal, and education consultant. He is an Ed.D. candidate in Educational Practice and Innovation at the University of South Carolina, with professional and research interests in education systems improvement, artificial intelligence, educational technology, STEM education, curriculum development, teacher professional learning, and technology adoption. Shady is a recipient of the Khalifa Award of Education Excellence and the Middle East Education Influencer Award. A long-standing advocate for educational innovation in the MENA region, he has spoken at TEDx, GESS Dubai, the FATIH Educational Technology Summit, and other national and international education events. His work focuses on translating emerging technologies and research into practical, sustainable improvements in teaching, learning, and educational leadership.

From AI Adoption to AI Readiness: How Education Leaders Build Schools for the Future.
Session Summary:
Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering schools, but meaningful transformation depends less on the number of technologies a school adopts and more on the leadership decisions behind their implementation. Drawing on nearly two decades of experience across classroom teaching, school leadership, curriculum development, teacher professional learning, educational technology implementation, and research and development, Shady Elkassas explores how education leaders can move their organizations from isolated AI adoption toward sustainable AI readiness. The session presents five leadership priorities: strategic purpose, teacher capacity, pedagogical alignment, responsible AI and governance, and evidence-informed continuous improvement. Rather than focusing on individual AI tools, the presentation challenges leaders to consider the systems, people, culture, and instructional practices required for AI to create genuine educational value. Participants will leave with a practical leadership lens for evaluating whether AI initiatives are improving teaching, learning, decision-making, and organizational capacity. The discussion connects regional educational transformation with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 ambitions for human capability development and future-ready education.
